Businesses are telling us that they are facing a number of challenges when:

Recruiting Employees

Many employers find the task of recruiting employees to be time consuming and overwhelming.  For some, it’s trying to find a way to get the word out, for others it’s confusing to know which of the many options to use.  The Recruiting Employees section of this site will help employers find quick links to Employment Centres, newspapers and websites, as well as other ways to get the word out about their opportunity.   There are a number of resources both for “fee and for free” and it is important to remember that there really is no “one size fits all” method that will work for all employers.  The trick is to really know what you’re looking for and who you are trying to attract – this will help you create a recruitment strategy that will work for your company.

Retaining Employees

Employers have indicated how costly it is to find and train a new person only to have them find another job and leave.  Most companies want to hang on to their knowledgeable staff and would be willing to consider new approaches to successful retention.  Things such as Professional Development, staff appreciation activities, flexible work house and cross training are often incentives to keep employees happy.

Government Programs for Employers
Both the Federal and Provincial Government recognize that Employers face challenges when it comes to finding and maintaining a quality workforce.  They are also aware of the difficulties businesses face when they consider expansions of both infrastructure and markets.  For this reason the JobsHere strategy was created to help strengthen Nova Scotia’s workforce and business community through a variety programs and initiatives.

Useful Links and Forms
As businesses grow, they often require more employees.  More employees (or even the first one), creates many questions for employers.  Questions about how to  create a job description, how to calculate payroll information, laws in Nova Scotia, and creating workplace policies are all areas that may need to be considered as the business’ human capital grows.
